Waggoner Engineering, Inc. Receives Award for Preserving Downtown Pelahatchie
The American Council of Engineering Companies has recognized Waggoner Engineering, Inc for a redevelopment project that transformed and preserved the Pelahatchie Historic Overlay District in Pelahatchie. The Project was completed in August 2010 and included renovating city hall, transforming a hardware store into a new community center, and improving pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow.
Waggoner, based in Jackson, was honored to receive the award in the “Small Projects” category. Each year the American Council of Engineering Companies gives awards to engineering firms around the country for excellence in the profession.
Innovative engineering techniques on the project included reusing existing materials for walls, support structures, roof paneling, and a conference table. The challenges of the project included reworking the main intersection of town to avoid delays, providing support between existing brick exterior wall and new rigid structure and overcoming hazardous materials.
Overall the social impact for Pelahatchie citizens includes enjoying pedestrian friendly streets and sidewalks, a community center, new shops, and an identity, stamped at the main intersection, as a “Place to Prosper.” Waggoner Engineering is pleased to play a pivotal role in defining, designing, and renewing the town of Pelahatchie.
The award was presented during the American Council of Engineering Companies of Mississippi Awards Banquet on March 10 in Jackson, Miss. Pelahatchie Mayor Knox Ross, and his wife Jamie, were present at the awards ceremony.
