Waggoner Congratulates Pelahatchie for Best Overall Municipal Excellence Award
Waggoner Engineering, Inc. applauds Pelahatchie, recipient of the Best Overall Municipal Excellence Award by the Mississippi Municipal League.
Pelahatchie recently received the honor for its “Downtown Rebirth” project which included the preservation of its downtown area and upgrades to the city’s police station, community center, library, city hall, and fire department.
The Mississippi Municipal League's Excellence Awards program recognizes cities that utilize innovative problem solving, excellence in management, citizen participation and community partnerships to provide increased services and a better quality of life for local citizens. Each year judges select one application as the Best Overall.
The awards were announced at the League's 2011 annual conference held on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in June. Waggoner has been a partner in Pelahatchie's significant preservation and redevelopment projects, including the renovation of city hall, transformation of a hardware store into a new community center, and improvements of pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow.
“We extend a hearty congratulations to Mayor Knox Ross and the Town of Pelahatchie for this well-deserved award," said Hunter Arnold, P.E., Vice President of Client Services for Waggoner Engineering, Inc. "City leaders should be congratulated for their vision and commitment to progress. We appreciate the trust that Pelahatchie’s leaders put in Waggoner Engineering to guide these projects.”
It is not the first time these projects have been recognized. Waggoner recently was honored by the American Council of Engineering Companies, Mississippi Division, for the Pelahatchie redevelopment project that transformed and preserved the Pelahatchie Historic Overlay District.
Today, Pelahatchie’s public buildings and streets provide modern functions yet retain their historic roots and atmosphere. A welcoming environment for pedestrians now exists. The signature piece is an etched logo embedded in the town’s main intersection highlighting the town’s theme of “A Place to Prosper.” The transformed downtown area is an important part of Pelahatchie’s future, while reflecting its proud past. It is an area that will beckon and embrace economic development and community growth for years to come.
