Faced with findings by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality that the majority of streams were environmentally impaired and in serious need of relief, compounded by the rapid population growth occurring throughout the county, the leadership of DeSoto County needed a plan to balance these critical factors in maintaining quality of life for its citizens. Out of this need came the initial phase of the DeSoto County Regional Wastewater Program that represents years of planning and construction through a combined effort of multiple political, public and private entities to accomplish one overall goal - to provide effective and efficient wastewater treatment for the current and future citizens of the fastest growing County in the state and 39th fastest growing in the nation with a population of more than 130,000.
