JACKSON, Miss. – June 18, 2019 – Waggoner Engineering, a full-service economic development, program management, and engineering firm, was recognized for our 20-year partnership with ESRI, a global market leader in GIS software. Since 1992, Waggoner has been at the forefront of this ever-growing industry.
Jimmy Bradley, CFM, GISP, Discipline Manager for GIS and Asset Management, has been with Waggoner since 2005 and says the company has invested in the growth of the industry.
“Waggoner continues to stay current on the latest software, keep up-to-date on current trends, and participate in user groups with others in the industry to be sure we’re bringing best practices to our clients,” Bradley said.
In 2004, Waggoner was selected to manage the development and implementation of a statewide digital mapping system for the State of Mississippi – the Mississippi Digital Earth Model (MDEM), focusing on seven framework data layers within the state, consistent with the priorities established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee.
Waggoner also utilizes LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and other types of terrain data to create elevation models to develop designs and augment conventional surveying. Accurate elevation data is crucial in flood-prone areas such as the Gulf Coast, to set flood insurance rates and minimize impacts to development and construction from potential flooding.
“It is clear that GIS technology has greatly changed our perspective of mapping,” said Bradley. “It has moved mapping from the historical role of a provider of information to an active and vital ingredient in the process of decision-making and site development.”
Since 1969, ESRI has helped customers unlock the full potential of data to improve operational and business results. Today, ESRI software is deployed in more than 350,000 organizations, including the world’s largest cities, most national governments, 75 percent of Fortune 500 companies, and more than 7,000 colleges and universities.
